Advancing Display Technology Through Objective Metrics for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) Devices
Description
In collaboration with Samsung, this project aims to advance display technology by developing robust, objective metrics to evaluate image quality across Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) display devices. As VRR technology grows in popularity—from monitors to TVs and smartphone screens—it brings exciting opportunities to enhance visual quality but also presents new challenges, such as unique types of flickering not seen in fixed refresh rate displays. This project aims to address these challenges by creating precise metrics to measure flicker in VRR devices.
Together we are working to establish these metrics as industry standards, providing display engineers and designers with reliable tools to identify and mitigate flickering issues early in the production process. Our goal is to set a benchmark for visual quality that will enhance user experience across diverse display technologies. Through this partnership, we aim to drive innovation in display technology, setting the foundation for consistent, high-quality visuals across all VRR-enabled devices.
